Lebanon Localisation Lab
Overview
The Lebanon Localisation Lab is a vibrant and dynamic movement dedicated to empowering local actors in humanitarian and development work. Convened by the Lebanon Humanitarian and Development NGOs Forum (LHDF), our movement ensures locally-driven decision-making and action. We prioritise local leadership, context-specific solutions, and collective action to create a lasting, sustainable impact in Lebanon.
Unlike traditional donor-driven models, the Localisation Lab gives local NGOs the flexibility to take risks, explore innovative solutions, and drive change from the ground up. This unique approach allows our members to respond more effectively to local challenges with creative and continually relevant strategies.

Movement Building
Movement Building
Our movement is built on a simple yet powerful principle: led by local actors, for local actors. We serve as a driver of change towards sustainable localisation by focusing on:
Strengthening Civil Society: We work to fortify the foundations of local civil society, enhancing its capacity and resilience.
Enhancing Coordination: We improve collaboration and coordination among local NGOs to create a more unified and effective response to community needs.
Driving Change: We act as a catalyst for systemic change, advocating for a shift towards more sustainable and equitable localisation practices.

Building Bridges
Bridges
A core part of our mission is to foster connections that strengthen the entire ecosystem. We actively build bridges by:
Connecting Local and Global Actors: We facilitate meaningful partnerships between local organisations and the global community to share knowledge and resources.
Linking Donors and Local Actors: We create direct channels of communication and collaboration between donors and local NGOs, promoting trust and more effective funding models.

We are a space for innovation and practical problem-solving. Our movement promotes local-led responses to humanitarian and development challenges through several key strategies:
Empowering Communities: We empower communities to drive their own change and develop tailored, sustainable approaches that fit their unique context.
Shifting Power: We advocate for and practice the shifting of power to local actors, ensuring they have the autonomy for decision-making.
Encouraging Innovation: We provide a safe space for risk-taking, allowing local organisations to pilot and scale innovative solutions to complex problems.
Developing Sustainable Strategies: We focus on co-creating sustainable localisation strategies and tailored solutions for Lebanon’s specific challenges.
